We at Centerville Community are a part of a global Church movement called The Christian & Missionary Alliance. We place an enormous emphasis on the local churches accomplishing God's mission in our communities, as well as sending and supporting missionaries who bring the Good News of Jesus to the ends of the earth. We stand with our incredibly diverse and unique ministry family believing that seeing Heaven on earth will take many hands and voices around the world. All of Jesus for all the world takes all of us. You can find our Statement of Faith below, and at the bottom of the page you can find our full list of Statements and Perspectives.
Statement of faith
This Statement of Faith is a list of non-negotiable, scripturally grounded beliefs that we uphold as part of The Christian & Missionary Alliance. As a global movement there are many beautiful expressions of the Church that work together in humility to further the work of the Gospel. While that humble cooperation comes with an amount of "open handed" issues, our Statement of Faith contains 11 doctrines that we consider absolutely essential, or "closed handed." This is by no means an exhaustive list of all the different statements and perspectives we hold. To find a complete list of our Statements & Perspectives, scroll to the bottom of the page.
-
There is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4), Creator of all things (Revelation 4:11), who is infinitely perfect (Matthew 5:48), existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).
-
Jesus Christ is the true God and true man (Philippians 2:6–11). He was sent by the Father (John 20:21), conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin, Mary (Luke 1:34–38). He died on the cross, the Just for the unjust (1 Peter 3:18), as a substitutionary sacrifice (Hebrews 2:9), and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood (Romans 5:9). He rose from the dead according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest (Hebrews 8:1). He will come again to establish His Kingdom of righteousness and peace (Isaiah 9:6–7).
-
The Holy Spirit is a divine person (John 14:16–18), sent to indwell, guide, teach, gift, empower, and bear His fruit in every believer (John 16:13; 1 Cor. 12:4, 11; Acts 1:8; Gal. 5:22–23). He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment (John 16:7–11).
-
The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired by God and are a complete revelation of His will for our salvation. They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice (2 Peter 1:20–21; 2 Timothy 3:15–17).
-
Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God: he fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death. All men are born with a sinful nature, are separated from the life of God, and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The portion of the impenitent and unbelieving is existence forever in conscious torment; and that of the believer, in everlasting joy and bliss. (Genesis 1:27, Romans 3:23, 1 Corinthians 15:20–23, Revelation 21:8, Revelation 21:1–4)
-
Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all people (1 John 2:2). Those who repent and believe in Him are justified by grace through faith (Romans 3:21–24), born again of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:4–7), delivered from the dominion of darkness, transferred into the Kingdom of God’s Son (Colossians 1:13), granted the gift of eternal life, and adopted as the children of God (Romans 8:14–16; John 1:12).
-
It is the will of God that each believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be sanctified wholly, being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to the will of God, thereby receiving power for holy living and effective service. This is both a crisis and a progressive experience wrought in the life of the believer subsequent to conversion. (1 Thessalonians 5:23, Acts 1:8, Romans 6:1–14)
-
Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the whole person (Isaiah 53:4–5; Matthew 8:16–17). Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures (James 5:13–16) as privileges for the Church in this present age (Acts 4:30).
-
The Church consists of all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church, which has been commissioned by Him to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations. The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. (Ephesians 1:22–23, Matthew 28:19–20, Acts 2:41–47)
-
There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life; for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment. (1 Corinthians 15:20–23, John 5:28–29)
-
The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent and will be personal, visible, and premillennial. This is the believer’s blessed hope and is a vital truth which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service. (Hebrews 10:37, Luke 21:27, Titus 2:11–14)
The Fourfold Gospel
Below you will find a brief outline of what we refer to in the Christian & Missionary Alliance as The Fourfold Gospel. These are in no way an exhaustive list of who Christ is, but these four roles of Christ were central to the teaching and spiritual formation of our movement. The Fourfold Gospel was a book written by our movement's founder, A.B. Simpson, in 1890. If you would like to read the book, you can find a free copy here .
-
savior
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. - Acts 4:12
The Name of Jesus has permeated every culture for more than 2,000 years. In the Name of Jesus, people have experienced great miracles as well as horrific persecution. Jesus made clear His purpose on earth; only through Him is salvation available.
Jesus’ death on a cross was the fulfillment of Old Testament law, which required blood atonement for sin. By His death and resurrection, we are redeemed from eternal separation from God, justified, made righteous, and accepted in His Name.
-
sanctifier
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. - 2 Peter 1:3
Salvation for the believer happens in three tenses. First, in the past tense—we have been justified. Second, in the present tense, we are being sanctified, made over in the image of Jesus, as described in Romans 8:29. Finally, in the future tense, we will be glorified, according to 1 John 3:2, a process made possible by Christ, our Sanctifier.
-
healer
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. - James 5:15
A great portion of Christ’s earthly ministry was dedicated to healing the sick. We find no record in the gospels of Jesus turning away anyone who came to him for healing, nor do we find that any disease was too difficult for him to heal. He even raised the dead. Miraculous healings continue today—evidence that Christ still is our Healer.
-
coming king
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. - Matthew 24:14
Clearly, the entire New Testament tells us of the Second Coming of Christ. The Alliance is committed to doing its part to complete Jesus’ Great Commission before His glorious return.
